Island Tales: Taiwan and Australia
This is a catalog of an exchange exhibition of artists from Western Australia and Taipei. Most of the works are about the history of the artists in their respective regions. Tales refers to fictional stories. Each artist rewrote the history based on his/her inherent history.
This book uses 180-degree flips between Western Australia and Taipei as the distinction. The cover is hot stamping (white) on black silk cot. Black and gold are printed on the rough surface of Fengshu paper (uncoated paper). After mounting on a thick black card, the shape of the text and map is partially debossed, and the text box left in the lower layer is cut with a die. Finally, the Fengshu layer is pasted on the black silk cot layer on double sides.
The article on the inner page is printed on the yellowish comic paper in monochrome, and the introduction part of the work is printed in full color on light coated paper. For each artist's introduction, print the monochromatic introduction text on colored paper (Gmund color matt), and then paste it on the book by hand. By using different paper colors and lengths as the starting page is in order to distinguish each artist’s section. The book is intended to present a sense of document and history through paper, binding, and post-press finishing, in response to the writing and narrative of history discussed in this exhibition.
